The Mission of The Let Love Lead Project empower the leadership of women and children, especially girls who have been impacted by AIDS using the arts to heal, inspire and thrust people into action. The arts are a means to put the innate need to be seen, heard and make a difference in the world on loudspeaker. The Let Love Lead Project puts the tools in the hands and mouths of the young so that they, centered in their love for self, community and country, let love lead them to create and cause a future worth living into.
The Purpose of The Let Love Lead Project is to reveal the magnificence of the women and youth impacted by AIDS by unleashing their voice and full self-expression and empowering their leadership through a series of workshops led by Teaching Artists from the US partnered with Teaching Artists from the host country. The workshops in creative writing, visual arts, dance and music will be led to women and children impacted by AIDS either directly or indirectly (due to sex with husbands, rape, incest, birth, or orphaned by AIDS). The project will culminate with a mural, art exhibit and compilation of their writings.
The Let Love Lead Project will host its first Charity Art Exhibit in New York City in September of 2007. The Exhibit will highlight the writings and art of the women and children, as well of the Teaching Artists, from our first host country of South Africa. All proceeds from the work sold will go back to the community who created the work.
There will be an art exhibit of the art and writings created after each Let Love Lead Project.
The Let Love Project will have a educational curriculum to be used in both public schools and after-school programs to engage children in partnering with the AIDS orphans around the world in creating a future for everybody that is worth living into. The curriculum will include a project that the children here will create to help the orphans abroad. They will learn geography, social studies, math, science and language arts while enjoying the fruits of "doing good" for the world.
The Let Love Lead Project will be made into a documentary film to inspire and spur others into action because EVERYBODY can do something! Everybody can make a difference!
The Let Love Lead Project will also go to Brazil, India, Colombia, Sierra Leone and Liberia, Russia, China, Kenya, and wherever else poverty, war and AIDS are stealing a child's' future.
